ok so blogger hasnt been working on me the past few days but all's resolved now hopefully!

firstly, a HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY to DANIEL TAN AIK HWEE!!!
hope this year is a good one for you, may you stop being so bloody grumpy and grouchy, hope you find a girlfriend soon, start gaining composure on the field and most importantly, 21 years old already! TIME TO CUT YOUR HAIR!!

but more importantly, thank you for being a brilliant (if not perfect) elder brother for the last 18+ years. thanks for cooking all the splendid meals for me, driving us to all those fantastic road trips, and for constantly nagging me to become a better student/footballer/etc. here's to more drinks, soccer, footie, and good ol' collingwood forever!

so last night we celebrated his birthday on the dot with a nice beer at the elephant and wheelbarrow. today started out rushing down to play our decisive group game of the tournament. it went badly, i managed to get on the scoresheet again but that was overshadowed by the fact we lost 6-2. we just didnt play well enough, which means our final group game against bloody turkey has no implications for our qualification prospects. nonetheless, we're aiming to win this grudge match, and if we do, i'll let the team cut my hair.

went for dinner at this brilliant french restaurant along toorak road. it was seriously damn good we had a couple of entrees, i had damn good french onion soup, and my pepper steak was equally good. nicole had some duck in orange sauce which was damn good too!

so a day that didn't kick off too well has ended pretty alright. photos will follow, gabriel out!

do you ever feel like you have a friendship, where you're the only one making an effort? it's like everyday you find yourself going out of your way to do your part for the friendship, only for the other party not to reciprocate. it gets a little ridiculous when you find yourself not receiving the exact thing you just did a day ago. like when you skip the hottest party in town cause you promised your friend you'd watch the footy with him, and then just a few days down, he promised to go shopping with you, but he cant cause his friends invited him to the beach. and between shopping with you, and beach with friends, the latter is the more appealing choice, and therefore, the 'priority'. it gets abit tiresome, more so with each passing day. and every so often i pull my ass off the ground and back on my feet to try to do more for this friendship.

but with each passing day, i'm getting sick of being your friend too.

ocean avenue never fails to cheer me up tho. whether blasting it on my earphones, or singing my heart out on the guitar, hee.

if i could find you know, things would get better
we could leave this town, and run forever
i know somewhere somehow, we'll be together
let your waves crush down on me, and take me away yeah

this past weekend was very nice i must say.

friday night, we managed to beat port adelaide with a last minute goal from mr alan didak himself, so that was brilliant personally. considering how we were winning at first, and then let port come back into the game.

drove up on a mini-road trip on saturday morning with dan, kevin and nala. i was a pretty good navigator i must say. we reached mornington by noon and had lunch at this vineyard called red hill. it was very nice, the view was breathtaking cos behind all the grape plants (i dont know what you call them) which were on mountains and valleys, you could see the sea. it was beautiful. so i had kangaroo for the first time ever, and it tasted good! the food was expensive but worth it cos it really was damn tasty. then we had a bottle of dessert wine while admiring the scenery.
it's damn nice cause it's like the winery is there itself so they not only pluck the grapes there, they make the wine themself. so we bought some wine, and i also grabbed some special pasta which looked damn good.

we then drove up to sorrento which is sorta like a port thingy. we brought the footy ball out for a kick but a stray handpass by dan saw the ball go PLOOP straight into the sea. so being the only idiot wearing berms, i had to go in and get it. then after that, a superb kick by kevin or nala saw the footy ball get stuck up a tree!!
so we smartypants people got the soccer ball out and tried to kick it up the tree to get the footy ball down. it was working well until one of my wayward kicks saw the soccer ball go into the sea as well!!! so once again, pulling up my berms i went into the sea to get the ball. whilst drying my legs and feet, kevin decided to give it a shot, and give it a SHOT, he did!!! within three minutes of me picking up the ball, it was BACK in the sea! but the ball, was already half spoilt, so we decided to donate it to the fishes to play water polo.

however, while drying my pants in the car with the aircon, they managed to retrieve the footy ball by throwing water bottles at it haha. so luckily both balls weren't gone. we then went to THE BATHS for dinner, overlooking the sea. it was nice, i ordered a pasta but from the look of it you would have thought it was a salad! yucky vegetables!

sunday was fantastic, the four of us plus nicole drove up to mt dandenong for scones. we didnt get to eat at the place we had planned at cos it was too crowded. so instead of miss marples, we went to this more dodgy looking place called BROTHER JONS which was actually sorta like a church/hotel. they not only served scones, they served meals!! nicole and dan had the lamb shank which was seriously the best tasting lamb i've ever eaten. i had lasagna, and then we had SCONES which were damn nice. gotta learn how to bake my own scones man.

to cap the weekend off, manu 5-1 fulham. nuff said. gonna play soccer in awhile now, gabriel out!

today was the second match of the tournament. at first we thought we were playing the pretty good malay team so we were pretty nervous. but upon further checking we realised we were playing the worst team in the group, so it pretty much calmed us down abit.

we started well and attacked alot, scoring a good goal early on. finishing let us down and their keeper was easily their only good player, but thanks to jaya who scored two goals, we were leading 3-0 at halftime.

conceded early on in the second half, but there was never a doubt we were going to win. could have easily been a trashing if our shots were better, and if the keeper was lousier. i managed to score one more goal which finished the game at 4-1. i celebrated by blowing a kiss to nicole who was sitting by the sides watching.

at the end of the match, she didnt remember me scoring, but said she saw weian score. very well done, my own girlfriend cant even recognise me. heh heh.

so our mid-season break is next week, and in two weeks time when we actually play the malay team, hopefully we will be in good stead to grind out a win. gabriel out!

okies i'm back!! heh sorry for lack of updates been bloody busy this past week.

well in terms of meals, this week was fantastic!! we cooked almost every single day and it was pretty good nosh everyday! and i just baked honeycomb muffins an hour ago and i've already ate two! they are pretty nice i must say.

well tournament started on wednesday and it wasn't too ideal. we saw the opponents kicking around and felt they were really lousy. it wasn't that we were overconfident but we just knew we could easily beat them. so imagine the shock of going 0-3 down in the first 5 minutes, and losing 0-4 by halftime. didnt start the match altho i came on and hit the post but i should have really put that one away. 1-4 at halftime would have been slightly better on the morale.

started the second half and weian scored within a couple of minutes and even during half time i knew we could still win it cause it was obvious that we were better than them. then i managed to score two goals in quick succession and it was 3-4 and then you could really tell we were confident of turning it around. there was still 10 minutes left. alas, it was not to be as we conceded another goal and lost the match 3-5.

all in all, on an individual basis it was a good start for me to university tournament, but on a team note, i would have rather not scored and we won. the worst thing was that we conceded those first three goals with our supposed best lineup. the players we thought were the most stable and composed ended up being panicky.

no use pondering over what could have been for the opening game. fact is we have one loss to our name already and we just gotta build on that. next match is on wednesday and nothing more than a win will suffice, otherwise we are seriously staring an early exit right in the face.

school work's fine, essay is coming along well. hope this semester is everything the rest have never been.

promise more frequent posts, gabriel out!

magpies went down to the stupid adelaide crows last night by 4 points. what made the defeat more difficult to swallow was that we played well enough to deserve to win, just unlucky i guess. but it's alright, we'll bounce back!

kevin's having his one week mid-sem hols this week so he's staying in the city the whole week which will make it pretty fun i guess. my first assignment of the semester is due this coming friday but i'll probably get it done by thursday so i can hand it up, rather than have to go to school on friday just to hand it up.

everything else has been a little stressful and straining lately, but it'll be better i guess. everyone has off days. gabriel out.

weekend again WOOHOO!! welcome the the carribbean!!!

anyhows, today was alright, school was fine. lecture was cheem but interesting, and lab was cancelled which meant i went home at 5pm instead of 6pm thank goodness. you may think its only an hour difference but trust me, in terms of DAYLIGHT it matters damn lot son!

tonight was THAI NIGHT in memory of sant well so basically we cooked red curry, and had left over tom yum from two nights ago. was pretty nice, and we drank coke which is the official THAI drink according to sant (but thats only cos he drinks two 2L bottles a day heh heh heh).

anyhows, soccer tournament starts next week!! so damn exciting man, we managed to draw the reigning champions for the last two semesters in our group, BLOODY GALATASARAY!! we're gonna kill them man, i'm personally gonna break emre's leg!! just in case you're wondering, they arent really galatasaray but have many similarities. and emre doesnt really play for them, just a cheap imitation who's really short and likes bananas.
and, in order to bolster our defence, i have made a call to our secret weapon, FABIO CANNAVARO!! well, i wont reveal who he really is cos he's our secret weapon, but he's an old trinity mate of mine, and well, let's just say "thou shalt not pass!"

so hopefully we'll manage to put a good run of results together and see whereabouts we are at the end of it all. of cos, our team is missing the days where we had superstars like IAN and SIANG, and more recently this semester, we dont have our inspirational captain vasant boroworomarlborovanitchkul anymore, but we shall try to do him proud.

led by the latest holder of the prized marseille jersey ie the new captain lim weian, S.S.F.C (Sant's Six or Swanston Street Football Club) will be looking to recapture the glory days of its predecessors. the tournament which made household names of ong siong hian, ong siong ian, and AHBOY, and AH-DI (well not quite) will welcome new players hoping to make their mark.

marshalling the back of defence will be one-time captain of now-defunct Astroburners FC, daniel tan ie my elder brother heh heh. hopefully we wont be too kancheong, and preferably he cuts his hair so his silly fringe wont obscure his vision. otherwise he is IMPERMEABLE and as INFALLIBLE as the berlin wall.

partnering him will be secret weapon a.k.a cannavaro. dont be fooled by his size, he makes up for it in gimli-esque HEART. first to a tackle and never one to shirk from a hard hit, just dont play the ball out for corners.

we also have the MUNHONG, a buffalo in the heart of midfield in terms of size and not work rate. his vision and technical ability will hopefully see him through the game despite his lack of physical ability. one of the few remaining members from the glory years of the club, he will be hoping to make his final swansong before he transfers to greener pastures next year ie. SAFFC.

in the midfield too, we have the engine, the water carrier, the 5km runner, returning from his stint in the states playing for the metrostars (metrostars = bunch of potheads). darryl also known as dardar, and PHARRELL (Fat darrYL). featuring incredible stamina and a great passing range, his only weakness is his dependancy on performance-enhancing stimulants like nicotine.

el capitano is the name of lim weian, who has the latest honour of wearing the marseille jersey which was handed down to him by vasant. with added responsibility now on his shouders, it will be interesting to see how his own brand of leadership will benefit the club. with undoubted flair and technique, the sixers will be looking to him to create most of their attacks.

finally, the undoubted star of the team is ME aka GABRIEL TAN AIK HOONG aka the self-proclaimed EL NINO!! with his quicksilver pace and trademark stepovers (which cristiano copied by the way), the dashing forward will be looking to win the golden boot award in his first outing in the melbourne uni cup. expect to frequently see him make a defender look silly, and expect to see even more frequently, him getting scolded for not passing the ball! with his dazzling array of skills and tricks, he is SURELY the STAR of the tournament!!!

heh heh heh so there goes this pre-season wrap up of Sant's Six Football Club. everything was purely in good jest, AND i really am not the star of the team. that will have to be fat darryl. so come down on wednesday afternoons starting from next week to melbourne uni hockey pitch to support us yar! see you there, el nino out!
