first time blogging since i became an NSman. haha so the first 3 weeks have passed! at first it was torturously slow but now they seem to be breezing by and hopefully that remains the case. would write on NS life but i'm short for time so i'll leave that for another occasion.
celebrated an early 21st birthday yesterday at sicc. it was pretty good actually. it wasnt too large scale or anything but a few close friends, a few bottles of liquor and quality conversation probably beat any large scale massive clubbing party in my books. so as per every year (albeit slightly earlier this year), thanks to dan, hoon, yuwei, huiwen, marc, chuin, tat, jwong, joseph & nicole and cel for making it down to sicc. also to azad, eli and claire for coming to my place later on to chill abit more. all in all, a quiet 10/10 night.
booking in later on so gotta start preparing. am gonna drop by nala's house for his birthday after i polish my boots. so i better head off. but you'll probably hear from me soon enough cause i'll be booking out on tuesday for hari raya! gabriel out.

so tonight is the last night being a civilian, and oddly enough, i find myself with little much to write.
today was just a semi-hectic day, getting some last minute shopping done before going to the barber to shave my hair off. it almost feels like starting school term in
melbourne all over again,
cept this time it will be less mentally-taxing but physically more strenuous.
nevertheless, i did enjoy my last bowl of meepok at the old place with dan, hoon, yuwei and huiwen. it will be a short while before i see them again. i have really nothing to say haha. i'll be back soon enough.

oh how ironic that on what is probably my last proper day as a civilian, i had a thoroughly enjoyable day. even more heartening is the fact that i spent it with people that i have known for awhile, doing normal down-to-earth things!
woke up for breakfast with the family, we went for prata! i had four kosongs and was so full that when i got home, i dozed off within an hour haha. dinner was also with the family where we went to cactus to eat. claypot tanghoon, fish head curry, cereal prawns, steamed soonhock, etc etc. it was pretty yummy. except for finding a miniscule cockroach in my spoonful of cereal (which probably enhanced the flavour anyway). and a lizard dropping on mum which left dan screaming and changing seats with me.
after that, i met marc and azad down at hollandv. few beers with marc before he headed back to book into camp, then i dropped by to say hi to chuin and her bf.
headed back to nus to chill with azad, we jammed with eli and it was a very fruitful session i must say. last week was far from a random fluke, today we sounded even better! so we got down to business and got eli to sign a contract, tying him down to
Belle's Revenge for the next 10 years at least, with an option to extend for another 10 years. remember the name man, belle's revenge, not eli haha.
so i will make a concerted effort to drop by here one last time tomorrow night; posting for the last time as a civilian for the next two years. get ready for an outpour of emotion haha. gabriel out!

in a week's time, i would have started national service. haha it's kinda surreal, like since going to melbourne and knowing i would be escaping it temporarily to finally finishing uni and coming back to actually get down to business. i'm still now that apprehensive yet but many say it only kicks in the last few days before you go in.
dan turned 23 on saturday!! we had supper at newton when it turned 12, was a pretty decent surprise due to my much-practiced lying skills. had quite a feast, which was nothing compared to his birthday dinner. played soccer at acsi in the morning which was pretty good too, then had pa's clinic function which was for introducing the two new doctors joining. the spread was pretty yummy, i was just wolfing down plates of dry meesiam haha.
dinner was at sin ming, where 13 of us devoured a spread originally ordered for 15 people. haha needless to say, there was a lot of shoving of responsibility near the end. but it was a very good dinner. some of dan's friends came over after that, marc, azad and eli came over for just a quiet jamming sesh. but it was fun and marc's new camera is pretty fancy.
tonight was pretty fun. wanted to play the guitar after midnight but was afraid i'll wake people up so i went down to the tv room with a pen and pad and actually started writing songs! managed to write one almost complete, and i got the concept of another one down. so pretty fruitful. and then after that for further inspiration, i watched school of rock. which leaves me where i am here right now. i will either sleep or play abit of FM.

it's like my most politically-aware and responsive song yet. it's kinda like leaving a place for awhile and returning and seeing the mess that others have made. and it's sorta like the place you grew up and had fond memories of and you just wonder what the hell have people done to it. it addresses both war and environmental issues. can't wait to let azad here it on the weekend!
