fresh from the exploits of Belle's Revenge, yours truly will once again be hitting the stage in the not too distant future. dabbling in my side project, i give you The Caravan which will be putting on their debut show on the 10th of december at the inaugural "Rock-Alias '06". while we will be performing covers as per normal, the truly interesting aspect of this show will be that several original songs will be done by The Caravan. combining an eclectic mix of acoustic mellow rock with the punk influences of nick tang and the latin percussion background of shah azad, we promise we will come up with a fresh new approach to music that will keep you bouncing off your feet. moreover, Rock-Alias '06 is a drive initiated to promote anti-drug awareness amongst students so come on down on do your bit for your fellow youths.

for tickets, please contact jin at 97569228 or nick at 94238960.

believe me, you will not be disappointed.

friday's gig was decent, the atmosphere was good and the crowd was awesome but the sound system at momo was really shite, and the soundman had like a vodkabottle stuck up his arse it seemed like, so we sounded rather shabby, but overall 6/10 i guess. looking forward to rock-alias on the 10th now.

today was pretty cool, nicole came over in the morning and my mum gave us a lift to our favourite longhouse during lunchtime for the best DRY PRAWN NOODLE around. gave home and had a nap before meeting up with owen at night. he drove us to chomp chomp(my first time) where we met up with shumin and mich. ate truckloads (2 servings of stingray and hokkien mee), went to playground to chill abit before going back to mich's for a round of beer pong. i partnered shumin and we lost to first set 3-5, was losing to second set 2-4 when shumin had to go home. well, IT AIN'T OVER YET!!

so very tired, same old situation everytime i get back. but what do you know, even tho i always say not to let myself be caught up in all this, i always do. it's just the way i am. but no more i guess. after all i'm perfectly fine being a recluse, idling my time away at home. sick of the empty agreements and material friendships. as of today, i'm not gonna make an effort to meet up with anyone. if you want to meet me, do it yourself and approach me. i am so damn tired of trying and receiving a big fat disappointment every other time. unless your name is like owen or someone as important, the ball is in your court.

suffering from an acute case of insomnia. either that or i just cant sleep becos of the gig tmr, which is pretty odd because apart from my first few gigs i have never had problems sleeping. well was dozing off awhile ago, but a friend called and now i cant get back to sleep.

played the guitar awhile to try and get sleepy but in fact im a lil bit worried becos my throat is still a lil off and i seem to be very out of breath, hopefully that will subside and wont be a problem tomorrow. now i'm just stoning and listening to my music, so many songs i can imagine my band playing haha.

what did i do today hmm. watched "happy feet" with nicole, it was pretty cute and funny but erm not one bit macho haha. had supper just now with dan, kevin and yuwei at thomson. first time having prata since i got back, had one kosong, one paper prata, and a bowl of my favourite soup kambing.

so i'm just letting the music play and allowing the melancholic thoughts fill the room. hopefully it'll get tiring after awhile and i'll be able to fall back to sleep. in an attempt to stimulate sleep, i shall end with the more unconventional goodnight world.

i come undone, oh yes i do
just think of all the thoughts wasted on you
and every word you say, say something sweet
cause all i taste is blood between my teeth
as i'm finding the words, you're getting away

just got back from zouk, went with limaik, dan, kevin and andrea for kevin's friend annabelle's birthday. twas alright, i went there to look cool and stoned and dao, to fit every bit of the rocker part and i must say i succeeded quite well. compliment myself for drinking very little, but went abit too heavy on the nicotine sticks which means my throat is still very f*cked.

went for ben&jerry's at great world before zouk with nicole, was pretty nice! i had oatmeal sumthing and cookie sumthing! so nice we have agreed to go more often.

left early at around 1am and went to newton to get hokkien mee but i ended at home with it, not one bit hungry :(

met freddie and eddie at zouk, twas good seeing them, i asked eddie to make cake for me and he was like "WHEN YOU WANT I MAKE FOR YOU" haha damn funny.

so very tired of it all. as of today i wash my hands of even bothering about the whole matter. but knowing myself and how badly i want it, i might just get involved again.

i am down with a horrible flu bug, and to add to that, i'm also having a bad bout of diarrhea. but the weekend wasnt bad.

saturday had madam's farewell at victor's superbowl at marina. was persuaded to put on my bowling shoes for the juniors and managed to rack up a grand score of 54!! also chilled in the east with my east side homey nigel boey aka double-B!!! we found a totally hip new joint which is VIP-only! dan came back on saturday bringing back my beloved rabbi-T, went for supper afters with him hoon and yuwei.

sunday morning went for breakfast with my family, had jamming in the afternoon during which i lost my voice. dinner at cactus with the family made the throat worse with chilli crab and black pepper venison. i really am going to have to watch my diet for the next few days lest my voice doesnt return in time.

ok just gonna rest and recuperate at home today. gabriel out!

Saturday, November 18, 2006

haha well to add to the wonderful breakfast i had, i must talk about the great lunch earlier today (or rather yesterday!). me and nicole went to longhouse and we both had a bowl of dry prawn mee each (with extra chilli wah its heaven with the peppery soup) and we shared a plate of duck rice (wahhh miss the duck gravy). haha then i had an urgent meeting in the toilet so we walked over to thomson plaza for me to attend to my business, and there's this super cool lego-filled top shop at thomson plaza. they have this cool lego keyrings; i already know the joker one can be given to yuwei, and the yoda can be given to kevin haha who else is there ah!!

jamming today was fantastic if i may say so myself. azad and mark were late, so me and tang put in a pretty good session between ourselves from 7 plus, the other two came at 8. took awhile to warm up and teach mark the parts but eventually it flowed brilliantly. i'm really looking forward to this time round. hopefully our final practice on sunday will go as well, and then it should be GAME SET MATCH.

went for dinner with tang and azad after that even tho it was at 12 plus, had drinks after at indochine i couldnt even finish my drink becos it was feeling really giddy and exhausted. i then realised that throughout the whole practice i did not sit down once, which means i was standing up, playing, singing and even jumping around for 2.5 hours. my legs are aching now, but it's all worth it and you will see why come friday.

need a long nice nap. gabriel out!

i seriously think my body clock hasnt gotten used or changed back to singapore timing. i tend to get sleepy around 11-12 at night, and i find myself waking up at 8 in the morning! today was even better, even though i only slept at 1am last night, i woke up at 0545 and couldnt really go back to sleep.

but it was a blessing in disguise becos i went to the market with my mum and grandma. i love market food and not bad, i tried this new meepok stall that tastes exactly like the old barker uncle at dunearn road campus. then i also had tea and eggs. wah damn damn good. and being greedy me i tapao-ed carrot cake home haha.

jamming last night was pretty decent. our bassist asfar learnt the songs pretty fast so hopefully we'll be able to put it all smoothly together. we spent the last half an hour or so chit chatting about many funny things, amongst them army, parties and "the cool gang". haha gabriel out.

had jamming yesterday, was pretty decent for a first session plus it was only 3/5 of the band. tang is such a wonderkid, you know there are people who can only read the notes and play it brilliantly. those kinda people are just no-talent robots, who regurgitate the same song over and over again. but tang not only can play what he learns, but if you ask him to make variations to it, he can becos he understands the concepts of music. instead of playing the 10min solo, he is the one who will next time create the 10min solo.

and haha azad has hmm improved beyond recognition?? haha no la he was always good, just that i didnt expect him to be able to do the fallout boy drum solo. when he played it i was like HOSHIT and after that i couldnt continue the song i was just like smiling to myself in a daze.

then after that azad and i went town met jin and relived the good ole days with SAKAE SUSHI. haha i got swindled man i took 2 red plates; and each one is $6!! so anyhow after that we walked walked awhile, before heading home for an early night.

speaking of heading home, nicole's coming back tonight. yay!!

ok now waiting for the AZ brothers to come over to jam, azad and azfar. gabriel out!

yesterday was pretty cool, let's see what i did.

daytime i had lunch with my mum followed by grocery shopping and yakun kaya toast. afterwards went to simlim to get a replacement battery charger but WOW to replace my cracked lcd screen is minimum $400 :(

owen came over around 6 for a drink and then we went to town for lunch with marcwong and jin at bigO. we figured they named that restaurant after owen; look out for the bigT soon named after tat. then we went bar-hopping!!

first we went hard rock to look for my dear friend DINDO BARIA TAMBUA but he wasnt playing with boys with toys anymore, only pam was there. so i said hi, sat for a few songs and then we went to devils bar where dindo's new band was playing. but, 3/4 of us were in bermudas and there was a dress code so we couldnt get in haha. proceed to balcony for our favourite jelly drinks but owen, being all macho said "they dont have the beers i like and i only drink beer!!" haha so ok to accomodate him, we then went to alleybar so he could get his erdinger on tap, i had a guinness draught, and gay marc and jin shared a tray of shooters, aptly named kama sutra.

went for a pretty decent supper after that, owen finished a huge ass $6 plate of hokkien me, jin had either ohluah or chai tow kuay i cant remember, marc had rojak and i hate my favourite hawker western food!!!

all in all, a superb night, not gonna let other fucked up matters ruin my so-far wonderful trip back. cant wait till you get back dearie!!

i've stayed home the past two days apart from supper on sunday night with kevin and yuwei. it was so funny yuwei's gotten really fat now, and he's teaching tuition. talk about ruining a kid's future before they even had a chance haha just joking.

last nite was pretty cool. i had a drink with my mum on the patio, and then my dad asked me to play drums for him. but after that, cause i earlier had bugged him to let me try his car, so he let my drive the beetle! wah it was difficult but pretty smooth. once i get the hang of it i think i'll rock in it. then after that something happened. which leads me to my next statement that i think i've found something in this world i want more than jessica alba. someTHING, not someone.

my dad's new ferrari is the SEX BOMB of all time. it is damn fast, damn sleek, and the interior looks just so cool. everytime he gives me a lift now, i'm gonna insist on that car. haha it's only 10 and i'm up already. don't knoe why can't sleep in late in singapore. ok gonna find something decent to do, gabriel out!

Sunday, November 12, 2006

heh heh last night was so good! well besides the obvious delay by the 3 idiots. singapore army is going to be in trouble with shah azad as driver, he made owen take a wrong turn like 15 minutes before the actual turning haha. i seriously waited an hour for them until the nice indian policeman was like why dont you wait inside because he had already walked past me like 10 times.

then we came home to put stuff down before heading to newton. it was soooooo gooood. i was thinking whether to eat or not then i looked at owen's hokkien mee and even tho he said it wasnt good, i was looking at it and going "AUTHENTIC SINGAPORE FOOD!!!" haha so azad and i share a plate of semi-cooked cockles and a large stingray. SHIOK! then we had satay too and stupid owen kept looking at the king prawn picture and made all of us think it was damn nice so we bought 3 in the end and one was $7 each!! haha jin didnt eat much too, he scared to lao sai when he go jungle haha.

afterwards we sent jin home, which was by far the best part of the night. i dunno i just havent laughed that much in a long time. i watched "tokyo drift" on the plane but dont know why azad also talk about drifiting but everytime owen approached a corner we would go "drift drift drift". haha then azad told us how his mother wont let him drive at all, the "CANNNNOTTTT!!!" was damn friggin' funny. and owen's driving was so messed up by the wrong turn azad had made him take earlier the night, he started to refrain from taking directions, even when it was jin asking him to turn left into jin's own estate haha. also there was a road that had a damn sharp left turn, a damn sharp right turn, and the continuing road that bent slightly right. as we approached, jin said "TURN RIGHT" and when owen turned into the sharp right turn jin was like "NO WHAT ARE U DOING!" he was referring to the rather straight road actually which none of us could see why that wasnt "go straight".

haha sweet owen sent me and azad back to my place after that, had a good chillax and watched manu win blackburn 1-0. very very good night. only miss my dear tho.

ok we're not really the champions, in fact i almost got murdered by psychology altho i think i raped international relations. but anyway, say GOODBYE to examination and HELLO to celebration!! hee hee i went for a celebratory beer with dan just now, even tho he still has exams and assignments to go haha.

i already planned, tomorrow i'm going shopping!!! so bimbotic haha but yeah just wanna take a huge break. i can seriously say i've put in a humongous effort in my school work this semester and no matter what grades i get, i'm already very proud of myself.

because nala did a fantasy team, i guess i ought to do the same. those who are totally not interested in soccer, bear with me.

goalkeeper: iker casillas (realmadrid/spain)
i would have put cech but never mind becos nala and dan would put him as well. but for variety's sake and also because i like him, casillas gets the nod. he's also more experienced than cech if you think about it, altho cech does have lots of experience as it is, plus hes so damn good it wont matter even if he was up against kahn's experience. but casillas, agile with sharp reflexes, and pretty commanding. not a bad choice i guess.

right back: sergio ramos (realmadrid/ spain)
i was really stumped thinking of a right back worthy of being called one of the top in the world right now. there just arent many. face it zambrotta has been the best for awhile but hes playing absolute rubbish at the moment for the catalans if any of you even watch the spanish la liga. so i plucked this semi-obscure hot prospect. well, he does get sent off often but that's only because he has to cover for three other incompetent defenders at real. for spain, he does a great job at rightback; his crossing and long balls are really pretty good. plus he's such a physical player and he scores many goals for real from corners. i have to say he could well be the best right-back in the next 5 years.

left-back: william gallas (arsenal/ france)
i hate arsenal and i hate france, but i am honest when it comes to my critique of footballers. he may have threatened to score an own goal but well being impartial here, he doesnt let players get past him, he's good in the air and he's a pretty decent attacker too. all in all, a great defender.

centre-back: john terry (chelsea/ england)
i of cos am not fond of chelsea too (haha dont hate them like arsenal tho) but john terry is wow. i wont make him captain tho, becos when he's captain he likes to disturb the referee no matter the distance between them. but for the most courageous, commanding and complete defender in the world, you cannot go past john terry.

centre-back: alessandro nesta (milan/italy)
i was thinking who to complement terry's uncompromising style and then i wanted a defender who was comfortable on the ball. rio ferdinand? hardly. but nesta has to be the most stylish defender for the last half decade plus he's influence just makes him hard to ignore.

right-midfield: kaka (milan/ brazil)
i know his more adept in the centre but hes so damn versatile plus his dribbling and pace make him a pretty good choice on the right. plus he's two footed so he can cut in and shoot. he's a great set-piece taker too and i just think he has great creativity, flair and decision making.

left-midfield: cristiano ronaldo (manu/ portugal)
i was trying hard not to name him because it would seem biased but i guess somewhere along the way he managed to squeeze in haha. one of the fastest players around, with exceptional skill and technique. prone to being selfish at times but as long as there are players around him to ensure he passes regularly, he is capable of being a decent threat.

defensive-midfield: andrea pirlo (milan/ italy)
yet another milan player, i am risking sounding pro-rossoneri but when i think of a player who doesnt lose the ball, can distribute and basically provides a backbone for the attack to fall back on, i think of pirlo. of cos he doesnt give the defensive stability makelele or gattuso do, but he does a decent job of intercepting balls he doesnt often need to tackle.

attacking-midfield: frank lampard (chelsea/ england)
all the talk about him being out of form and shit, i dont believe anyone who knows two hoots about football can say ronaldinho has been performing better than lampard. all ronaldinho can do is dribble, shake his leg and curl the ball. lampard wont dribble that much and i've never seen him shake his leg, but his passing is exquisite, he can shoot, he is capable of defending, and he possesses something ronaldinho never will: work rate.

forward: wayne rooney (manu/ england)
the player that excites me the most right now, rooney can do pretty much everything. like cristiano's team ethic, rooney's temper is rather suspect but he just does so much more for the team than just score. when he doesnt hit the back of the net, he creates chances for his teammates (which saha blatantly and unabashfully misses time after time). he helps defend and the most important thing about him is his spirit. he wants the ball so damn badly and dont even think about mentioning losing a game to him.

forward: david villa (valencia/ spain)
i just couldnt imagine a team with only one spanish player and no valencia players! but villa's inclusion is justified. he was second top scorer in the primera liga last season, only lower than samuel eto'o who undoubtedly being at barcelona, had more creative geniuses making him chances. the world cup in germany has just shown how good villa is. having never player at a major tournament before even at club level, at only having recently been a part of the spanish national team, villa responded with 4 goals, showing he can do anything from scoring freekicks to scoring halfway line goals in the primera liga. altho along with rooney there is no height in this attack, their pace and guile can cause more than enough damage.

substitutes:
gianluigi buffon (juventus/italy)
gabriel heinze (manu/ argentina)
steven gerrard (liverpool/ england)
fernando torres (atletico madrid/ spain)

yesterday was the melbourne cup, the public holiday which universities still conduct exams on. haha i won on two races out of seven!! haha but i dont know how much i won yet cause it wasnt fixed odds, but it's like a pool. hopefully i'll win more than i bet haha.

it's quite nice really melbourne cup, it's the one day of the year you even give a hoot about horse racing. i remember last year me and nicky bought our horses then went to birra bella to have a burger and beer while cheering our horses haha. this year i just stayed at home but watched all the races from 10am. of course in between i switched off the telly and studied haha.

tomorrow is the big day. i've never had two exams in a day before so i hope i cope. haha or maybe i have, but i definitely havent had in the longest time. so yup, pray for me. and everyone else having exams, all the best too! gabriel out.

whenever i am in the midst of writing essays, i always find myself blogging halfway thru haha this must be therapeutic. am currently embroiled in mediating a battle between immanuel kant and friedrich nietzsche regarding freewill and determinism. haha too bad i only got private tuition for international relations, philosophy stuff i gotta save myself.

took a break just now and caught the delayed telecast of the second leg of the international rules series between ireland and australia in galway, ireland. although i hate most australian national sports teams including the socceroos and wallabies, my love for footy of course determines i support australia. you know, i think everyone should watch a game of international rules in their life. when i first saw aussie rules, i thought shit man this game is so much better than soccer, its faster, more physical, more exciting. but after watching international rules, i actually think it may be the best game of the lot.

just think about it, its a compromise between the codes of aussie rules, and irish gaelic football. so basically you can handpass kick and everything, and at the end of the day, you hope to put the ball past the keeper into the back of the net. and the best thing was the violence, which was so deemed as "aggresive sporting behaviour". becos all international rules matches are solely australia vs. ireland occasions, you could really see all the age-old rivalry erupt. talk about legal and mediated nationalistic violence. australia's vice captain last year left two irish players on the floor with punches which saw him banned for six games, and since there are only two games a year, chances of seeing him don the australian jersey anytime in the near future is null. haha but wow really you should go to youtube and just find some international rules highlights i swear you wont be disappointed.

what a long paragraph haha ok probably should get back to the essay. anyone with tips about kant or nietzshce, message me! gabriel out.

dinner today was fun, garlic prawn spaghetti and anyhow wack pizza. and it wasnt too bad tasting haha.

manu warmed my heart today, after not getting to see their best performance of the season against bolton last week, the first half was undoubtedly the best attacking football any team in the competition can come up with. add that to goals from cristiano and vidic who are both in my fantasy team makes it an excellent result.

i cant really think of anything i want to say. the days have mundanely drifted by, each one spent like the next, attempting to study, tending to my hunger pangs, before continuing exam prep. i havent touched either games of FM for awhile, but cant wait for exams to be over before i can play 6 seasons in a row guilt-free.

ooh and an unexpected surprise, one of my old friends who i was very close to in secondary school messaged me online just now, which was pretty pleasant. joshua he haha. then i remembered back on all the good secondary school days, joshua used to bully the crap out of this guy called marcus koh haha it was all very funny. i'm pretty sure adam and azad remember the whistling performance during sec2 music class. hahah priceless!! i realised the old times that mean so much to use were only great because of the people we shared them with. imagine if i was in jin tai secondary with no friends, i'm pretty sure secondary school wouldnt have been that memorable.

so this is three cheers for all the people that contributed to such wonderful memories in the past, that still play a part in my life today. you are appreciated much more than you know. gabriel out!

i have found news reports of a steve irwin halloween costume circulating in america, full with barbed stingray wound, extremely distasteful. it is not so much because of my respect for the man, but that the americans could even have the brains (or lack of) to once again create such a stupid invention.

alright if you wanna joke around about mishaps and really funny accident that well yeah, fair enough. but you do not make a mockery out a person's untimely and tragic passing. like the newspaper reports said, it'll be funny if someone from australia took the mickey out of christopher reeves' falling from a horse. how bout that, a falling-from-horse-superman halloween suit. that oughta get a few laughs.

it just aggrieves me that americans are so fucking self-centred, everything outside the world is a joke and everything inside their boundaries is of utmost importance. i dont knoe if i'm the only one who gets it or whether others do as well, but when you're like in an overseas uni do you ever notice the only ones not keen to make conversation are the americans? i have spent almost 2 years now interacting with americans in uni and the hostel, quite a few i like alot, some i really found arrogant, but the underlying common trait they all had is you had to mae conversation first. it was like they belonged to a higher caste order or were a superior being. and trust me i did make some good american friends like my housemates hayden and fox last semester so do not for a moment think i have a biased discrimination against americans.

9/11 terrorist attacks, create a bloody big commotion. i of course will never condone acts of terrorism. but if it took a bloody tragedy to inform them of the oppression and injustice their previous administrations had delivered, then you just gotta admit they live in a world of their own.

it seems all the united states are interested in these days are making movies and starting wars. i do not aim to speculate the intelligence of george bush (who jin actually says is clever haha) but i definitely believe his intentions are bloody self-centred. the so-called promised land that has enticed thousands of immigrants, the founder of modern democracy, has a lewd sense of humour, and even more distasteful behavior. one that i pretty much believe has got them into the political shitpool (pardon the lack of a better term) it is currently embroiled in.

please note that this has not been an american public bashing by any means as i have indeed met some brilliant people from the states. however, i must reiterate my point that even the best ones i've met i've found to be a lil snotty at first, and extremely self-obsessed. any "good upright american" as bush likes to call you guys walk past here and have something good to say about americans, please feel free. i would very much like one of you to come and fuck what i have just written becos it will then at least prove to us that americans still have some good in them.

yesterday was a funny old day. but nonetheless pretty alright.

woke up for chelsea-barcelona which was a pretty exciting game before going to south melbourne market with dan and weian for breakfast and also cos weian had to buy groceries for us because he was cooking dinner that night! haha so after that had to rush home cos i had driving which was pretty good today too. it was a slow start cause for unknown reasons i went super easy on the accelerator today but vicky, my instructor, said i did well by the end of the lesson.

came home and then decided to go play soccer with weian cause dan had class, and it was during soccer i realised why i took international relations as my major. during soccer, there was no one to play with so i saw the thais and sant's old friend pip who i know so i went to ask if we could join and he let us but then me and an had to play for the other team which were this bunch of useless really damn lousy chinamen. they couldnt even complete a pass and they refused to pass to me and an who were obviously better than them, plus they were so clumsy they kept kicking the thais. then one stupid fat chinaman who was wearing STUDS on the hockey pitch stepped on one thai ankle and then they started shouting profanities and so fun, FIGHT STARTED!!!

haha and even tho i was playing for the PRC, of cos i sided the thais cos i knew pip but wah it was damn havoc man. and take a deep breath and a round of applause because yours truly, gabriel tan, with a temper as foul as alan smith and a fuse as short as wayne rooney, was the one BREAKING UP THE FIGHTS! haha i was chasing alot of them round the pitch, holding them back and all la. it was damn funny they were shouting, "YOU ONE-ON-ONE, NOW!" haha in the middle of the freaking hockey pitch. reminiscent of old secondary school days.

yup so after soccer, i decided to joy and blessings of peace and i decided i wanna be a UN peacekeeper next time, with specific ambition to partake in the mission to lessen escalating tensions between the thai-china conflict.

heh heh dinner at weian's place after that where i finally got to try to much-hyped "teriyaki salmon on a bed of mash". the master chef didnt disappoint, it was a fantabulous dinner.

okie exams in a few days, gotta really study. gabriel out!! :)
