endless hours clocked up jamming in the past few weeks have inadvertently left several songs constantly ringing in my head, whilst stuck there they arent exactly a bother cause they are quite nice songs. one particular song that i dont remember jamming but is still stuck in my head however is that rather old song that has the line "it feels like home to me". i have no idea who sang it except that particular line is forever playing in my head, with an added significance considering i am finally back after four years in melbourne. tragically, in between reading my new book last night and sleeping the line made me tremendously emo (haha what's new!!).
it was then when i realised this feels nothing like home. singapore feels NOTHING like home. it feels like a holiday, a place i visit twice a year to rejuvenate my spirits after a semester of studying (who am i trying to kid once again haha). but i repeat, this feels nothing like home to me.
home feels like arriving home on a gloomy evening in my cbd apartment (kinda like NYC but not quite).
home feels like beer and potatos by the beach on the hottest summer day you can imagine.
home feels like waking up at 8am on saturday mornings to play football in 10-degree weather.
home feels like soaking up the atmosphere at the mcg/olympic park watching the pies/storm.
home feels like cooking a simple dinner with the housemates and having the best chats over the meal.
home feels like catching hailstones through the window at 4am in the morning.
home definitely feels like falling asleep next to you.
the irony of it all is that now i'm finally back in singapore, i feel even more lost than i have ever been. i have a handful of friends who really care, and alot of people who dont really give a damn. i have more people on my back, compared to the solitary person in melbourne that i so resented in the past.
"home" definitely does not feel like hurt every moment of the day.
of all the things i miss about home, you know who tops the list.
